Board Member Profile: Brian Wenger

Brian Wenger joined the Catholic Schools Center of Excellence board in January 2018. He and his wife Kate live in St. Paul and have six children.

Formerly chair of Briggs and Morgan and then executive vice president and chief legal officer at Optum, he is now venturing on his own as an entrepreneur. Brian and Kate are active in the community.  Brian has served on the boards of St. Thomas More Catholic School, Convent of the Visitation School, and is currently on the board of the University of St. Thomas and its Law School, the St. Paul Seminaries, HMML at St. John’s University and the University of Minnesota Foundation.   Kate has been the CFO of the Junior League of St. Paul, and serves on committees at Catholic Community Foundation and the board of Nativity of Our Lord School

As products of Catholic education, Brian and Kate bring a deep passion for Catholic schools. They recognize the value the schools bring to the individual as well as society.

“Catholic schools provide an ethical, faith-based, intellectual platform from which students and graduates can make individual and societal decisions,” Brian said. “There are a plethora of decisions we make that affect us personally and the world around us.  We all need a good foundation to make these decisions.  Catholic schools provide this.”

Brian is looking forward to continuing the excellence of Catholic education and expanding access.

“I would like to find ways for Catholic schools to continue to provide a premier educational experience in a safe and enriching environment,” Brian said. “I also would like to create structures so that anybody who wants to go to a Catholic school can do so.”
