Catholic apps faithful resources for prayer, catechesis

What would you say if I told you that technology can enhance your spiritual life?

It has for my family.

I used my first Catholic app five years ago. Our twins were 6 years old, and my husband traveled for work. I needed help with our bedtime routine on those more taxing nights. I discovered the Rosary Deluxe Audio, and I was hooked. It features complete text and audio of the rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet and Litany of the Saints. Our children love to fall asleep listening to these beautiful prayers. It is a spiritual and peaceful way to “pray” your kids to sleep and a great guide for prayerful mediation. Find it at:

The Catholic Calendar is an app where you can access the Catholic liturgical calendar for every upcoming year, read meditations on the saints and feast days and more. I use it daily.

“Catholic Words & Games” is an app for the whole family. I especially love this app for long car rides. The app is a collection of five beautifully illustrated educational learning tools and games. Have you ever heard of an alb? Cruet? Lavabo set? Mozzetta? You will after using this app. It is a must for every Catholic family or anyone discerning the Catholic faith. Downloads are available at:

Two years ago, Greg Aitchison, a religion teacher at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Edina, created CatholicQuotations.com, a blog where he shares more than 1,500 faith-related quotes he has collected for the past 15 years.

“In a sound-byte culture where short attention spans, religious confusion and moral relativism have become somewhat of the norm, good quotes can remain hidden and their power left untapped,” Aitchison explained. “These faith-related quotes are good advice on how to live a faith-filled life in general. Read them. Memorize them. Live by them.”

The site also features “Soul Snacks,” which Aitchison refers to as a “one stop shop for some of the best Catholic resources on the web and beyond.”

Another treasure trove of faith-filled links can be found at www.1corinthians13parenting.com, where there are interactive guides to grow your family’s faith and learn how to instill compassion in your children using Scripture.

For those on-the-go families, the Relevant Radio app is a great resource. No matter where your busy schedule takes you, this app will help you bridge the gap between your faith and everyday life.

When it comes to shaping values and attitudes about faith and life, technology can enhance our spirituality and faith journey.
